Karen Young

Voice

Karen Young (Soprano) received her M.M. degree in Vocal Performance from Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama where she studied with Dr. David Smith.  She also holds two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, one in Elementary Education, and the second in Vocal Performance, with a minor in piano. Her education also includes master’s classes/coachings/voice lessons with Dr. Ginger Beazley, Patricia Wise, Carol Vaness, Fredrica von Stade, Martin Katz, Joan Dornemann, Nico Castel, Richard Miller, Virginia Zeani, Mary Dibbern, David Aronson (Wien Staat Oper), and Ellen Rissinger (Dusseldorf Opera).

Ms. Young’s operatic/musical theatre credits include Nedda (Pagliacci), Magda Sorel (The Consul), Suor Angelica (Suor Angelica), Desdemona (Otello), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Mrs. Nolan (The Medium), Fantine (Les Misérables), Grizabella (Cats), Mother/Blair Daniels (Sunday in the Park with George), Edwin Drood/Alice Nutting (The Mystery of Edwin Drood), Aldonza/Dulcinea (The Man of La Mancha), Mary Magdalene (Jesus Christ Superstar), and Elsie Hickam (premier role, Rocket Boys, the Musical).

Ms. Young has performed regionally and abroad with such programs as the University Of Miami Frost School Of Music Salzburg Program, and the Savannah Music Festival’s American Traditions Competition.
