Voice

Josey Poppin has been singing and playing piano from a young age. She recently graduated with her M.M. in Vocal Performance from the University of Cincinnati—College-Conservatory of Music and holds a B.M.E in Music Education from the University of Northwestern-St. Paul in Minnesota. She has experience singing opera, musical theater, and contemporary worship, giving her a diverse teaching style and understanding of healthy vocal technique. She has performed throughout Minnesota, such as several recitals and winning 1st-place awards in competitions including NATS and Thursday Musical. In Cincinnati, Josey performed roles including Meg in Verdi’s Falstaff and the mezzo-soprano soloist in the American premier of Andrew Staniland’s operatic Dark Star Requiem. While in Huntsville, she will be performing with Opera Huntsville and other community groups.
Over the last 10 years, Josey has taught private voice and piano, elementary school general music, and has experience directing secondary-level choir. Building upon her experience both as a performer and an educator, she is passionate about guiding students towards discovering the amazing and unique qualities of their own voice and musicianship while maintaining a high standard for excellence.
