Drama and Creative Writing

Monday 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

For children in grades 1 through 5, the drama facet will include characterization, acting games and techniques in state makeup, elocution, projection, breathing techniques, and visualization tools.  The creative writing overview will incorporate basic creative writing techniques applicable to all genres but also includes some specialization in the genres of playwriting, character enhancement, poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction/essays and songwriting.

Drama Classes

Led by Ron Harris, this class teaches acting techniques and skills from the beginner to the advanced, and is for Middle School Students through Adults. Classes meet once a week and perform at the end of the semester for a workshop where the community is invited.  Call the office at 883-1105 for times.

Musical Theatre Class

This class is for Middle School and High School Students and meets on Wednesdays from 4:30 - 5:30.

 

Classes will explore all aspects of musical theatre performance including character development using voice and body, musical theatre dance steps based on student ability, and successful auditioning.  As part of the completion of this course, students will prepare for a mock audition and will perform for a panel of local directors.

Student Performing Playwrights: Middle and High School

Ms. Austin works with students on basic writing techniques to create and expand on an original character.  The students then incorporate acting skills to enhance their ability to become the original character and perform their work in a showcase.

Class size minimum of six.
